Hey, we have a new #copywriter in the ranks - @RriceWrites. And she's a Teessider, like me!
Anyway, I told her to get on Twitter because you lot are dead nice and you'll make her feel welcome. Give her a follow for your ol' pal G, will you? #ContentClubUK
@LouiseShanahan_ BQ: Feeling like I must be at my desk (even when I'm blatantly not working efficiently, if at all!) Using my time more effectively is my goal, so I free up more time for fun stuff. Oh, and quitting the mindless scrolling... 😬 #ContentClubUKHelen Bridal @HelsBridal • 14 Jan 11:35 GMT
@Jonathan50Wh4t1 @LouiseShanahan_ This was perhaps the hardest lesson I learned this year - but it meant I've cultivated a list of great regulars, interesting projects, and had time to actually live, too! It's tempting to take any and all work for fear of the famine, but saying no feels great. #ContentClubUKAnnie Thorpe @Annie_Writes_ • 14 Jan 11:33 GMT
@LouiseShanahan_ BQ. For a project later in the year I'm having to alter my drawing style into a rougher/concept based style. It's difficult because that means forgetting 75% of what I've learned over the last decade. #ContentClubUKrich banks @richbanks86 • 14 Jan 11:31 GMT
@LouiseShanahan_ A2: I've booked a day a week in the diary (OK, two afternoons) to study. I treat it like any other client appointment - seems to work best if you don't tell yourself you can cancel! #contentclubukAnnie Thorpe @Annie_Writes_ • 14 Jan 11:28 GMT
@LouiseShanahan_ A3: A couple:
1. Learn to trust in the process. If it's something's not working now, doesn't it mean it never will. Step away and trust that It'll work out.
2. I know more about copywriting and content writing than I sometimes think I do.
@LouiseShanahan_ A3. To do my own thing. Sure, get advice from others, but when it comes down to it, what works for one business doesn't work for everyone. Try different things, be bold, see what works & what doesn't #ContentClubUKMatt Drzymała | Copywriter @indeliblethink1 • 14 Jan 11:27 GMT
@LouiseShanahan_ A3: 1. No person is an island. You can't succeed in business unless you surround yourself with a support network.
2. If you struggle to follow through on your ideas / goals, partnering up with someone can give you that extra push.
3. Retainers are ace.
A3: Working evenings / nights is a disaster for me. My brain runs 3 x faster at night, so it’s tempting. But I can’t sleep in anymore so I’m destroyed for the next couple of days 😴 #ContentClubUKAmy Boylan @amyboylanwrites • 14 Jan 11:23 GMT
Q3: Save us from reading all those 'decade in review' posts
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in 2019?
@LouiseShanahan_ A2. I would probably fit it in around quiet times but mostly during the evening and at weekends. I had to do that when training to be a copywriter. I studied during lunch at work, then did more when I was home. #ContentClubUKMatt Drzymała | Copywriter @indeliblethink1 • 14 Jan 11:14 GMT
@LouiseShanahan_ A2: Still playing it by ear unfortunately! I always say I will make time for it when work calms down, but I'm not yet there... although to be honest, I sometimes think if I am this busy already, I am probably doing ok without any extra development right now! #ContentClubUKDee @Content_by_Dee • 14 Jan 11:14 GMT
A2: At the moment, I'm working on software that is designed for tech writers, so the work itself is CPD. Outside of that, I usually play it by ear, take courses in things that I feel I need to learn or brush up on. #ContentClubUKCraig Wright - Tech Writer @straygoat • 14 Jan 11:14 GMT
@LouiseShanahan_ A1: Going to CopyCon, lots of books to read/podcasts to listen to, doing the Mission Led Content course. I am trying to develop skills all around really, but very much in content and writing. #ContentClubUKHelen Hill - UnlikelyGenius @unlikelygenius • 14 Jan 11:13 GMT
@LouiseShanahan_ A1: Nothing lined up course/conference-wise really, & I'm gonna to continue to focus on my main skill (SEO). I'm open to changing that during the year, maybe signing up to something that grabs my attention later on in the year. #ContentClubUKSteve Morgan @steviephil • 14 Jan 11:08 GMT
@LouiseShanahan_ A1: I am working through Julia McCoy's Content Strategy course both to position my own business a bit differently but also to formalise and set up a structure for the strategy work I do. trouble is I am fighting to give it the space it needs due to client work #contentclubukSarah Wood @SarahWood7 • 14 Jan 11:04 GMT
A1: Nothing planned at the moment. Might do something UX-related if time allows. I've never been to a conference, so why break the habit of a lifetime? :) #ContentClubUKCraig Wright - Tech Writer @straygoat • 14 Jan 11:03 GMT
